IM in Crystal Lake Public Library

Eigenlijk heb ik niets met MSN en dat soort chatprogramma's. Voor deze keer toch maar eens geprobeerd met Meebo.com contact te maken met een bibliotheek in Crystal Lake, IL. Nog geen minuut nadat ik mijn eerste voorzichtige "hello" getypt heb komt er al een antwoord. De hele conversatie staat hieronder. Let niet op mijn krakkemikkige engels, veel tijd om over de grammatica na te denken is er niet. In deze bibliotheek wordt IM ingezet om vragen van klanten te beantwoorden. Het is wel zaak om de vaart in het gesprek te houden, anders haken klanten af. En bij ingewikkelde vragen is het toch handiger om telefonisch contact te hebben.

ask_clpl: Hi well we've been doing IM reference for about 1-2 years now.

ask_clpl: At this point just answering questions. We have added a Meebo widget to several places on our website now, so we're getting a few more questions about how to navigate the site, etc.

ask_clpl: We probably receive 2-3 questions per day via IM. Some are crank questions, but many people use it for legitimate questions.

meeboguest44267: Is it used often? Does it take a lot of your time?

ask_clpl: We have it set up to answer questions here at our Information Desk. It doesn't take too much time, but the challenge is to respond before someone hangs up - sometimes this is hard if we get busy. People don't tend to wait around too long with IM. We encourage people with more involved questions to call or email instead.

Voor inlichtingenwerk is IM dus goed in te zetten, mits er wel de tijd voor genomen kan/mag worden.
